I am always staggered by people who send through their resume with no cover letter, in my mind it is a like making a phone call to someone without saying “Hello” to open the conversation. A cover letter is how you make a great first impression, it’s a way to say “you really should meet me straight away, I am the one you are looking for!” (but not exactly in those words).
