THE WHO, THE WHAT AND THE WHERE

Before we begin, this is not a Sales Manager role, if you are transactional, don’t like to get your hands dirty and prefer to direct a team rather than drive culture then this is NOT the job for you. If you are a true leader who is vested in building high performing teams, takes ownership of strategy, growth, business opportunities and can drive financial success then read on.

Our client, a global business with their HQ in WA, provides telecommunications solutions to a wide variety of industries such as mining, oil and gas, aviation, transport, construction, the list goes on. They pride themselves on their customer focus, technical competence, and international-standard quality assurance. The leadership team encourages autonomy, is supportive and communicates openly.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

Culture – is a key focus for having the strong team in Port Melbourne of 30 working together. Melbourne is the bulk logistics store for all branches so there is 3 full time store/logistics people and lots of goods in/out. The regional Victoria branch is a team of 8, predominately a service business with a large, imbedded labour services contract dealing with onshore/offshore maintenance. The Launceston team of 5 people focus on sales, services and software development, the other Tasmanian team of 6-8 people will focus on a newly secure contract installing radio to all emergency service vehicles which will involve a team of installers working from Hobart, Launceston and Burnie over the next two years.

There is a wide breadth of roles in this team including a business development and sales team as well as engineers and communications technicians. This role is more than just dollars, it’s about creating a really positive culture within the team, and this is vitally important from the get-go. There will be no room for someone who is not engaged with the team. Ideally, we are seeking someone stronger in operations rather than sales, as the current State Manager is moving into a National Sales role and will take leadership of the sales team moving forward.

Strategy – your ability to be a strong contributor to the strategy will be essential, with a high capability to delivering the business plan to increase sales, profitability, market share and customer and employee satisfaction. You will direct, co-ordinate and monitor all sales, state operations and personnel activities. You will look to taking a good business and making a great business, in doing so you will create plenty of opportunity for yourself.

Finance – as part of your role it is vital you have experience overseeing financials of a business. Focussing on the financial success of the business in WA you will have total ownership of the P&L’s, budgets, and planning. You will be supported by State and National Finance Managers, but you will need to know if the business is heading in the right direction.

Collaborative Management – reporting to the General Manager you will have strong support to succeed. The GM has an open communication leadership style, he likes to bounce ideas and talks openly and enjoys collaboration. There are formal catch ups with the other State Managers, so you get to know your peers and be able to share the challenges and successes in various states across Australia.
