Project Engineer
Location:
Perth WA, Australia
Job Type:
Permanent Full Time
It's a detailed brief, so let's get into it...
You’ll be the Project Engineer that Graeme relies on to keep projects moving – from planning and procurement through to commissioning and close‑out.
You’ll sit in that sweet spot between site and office, making sure what’s on the drawings is what gets built, safely and on time.
In practice, that means you will:
- Help shape project scopes, schedules and budgets before a shovel hits the ground.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation and flag issues early.
- Track progress, milestones, risks and issues, and keep everyone honest with clear reporting.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers so materials, equipment and services arrive when the site actually needs them.
- Provide hands‑on technical support through construction, commissioning and handover.
- Get out on site to inspect works and verify compliance with design, codes and safety requirements.
- Support procurement with technical evaluations and documentation, not just “tick and flick”.
- Keep project records tight – reports, registers, correspondence and close‑out documentation.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and internal teams so everyone stays aligned on scope, changes and expectations.
- Contribute to risk assessments, safety planning and incident investigations in a way that’s practical, not box‑ticking.
- This is a newly created role, so there’s no legacy “this is how we’ve always done it” to inherit - you’ll help set the standard.
About you
You’re an Engineer who can see both the detail on the drawing and the reality on site.
You like solving problems in real time, talking to people, and you don’t get rattled when priorities shift.
You’ll bring:
- A degree in Engineering – Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or similar (or equivalent experience).
- Around 3–5 years as a Project Engineer on construction, infrastructure, mining or industrial projects.
- Confidence in reading and challenging drawings and technical specs.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills – you naturally ask “why is this happening?” not just “what’s happening?”.
- Solid communication skills – you’re comfortable with clients, contractors, supervisors and the back office.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and stay calm under pressure.
- Proficiency with project management tools and the Microsoft Office suite.
- A genuine commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement, you hold the line when it matters.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to visit project sites as needed.
- If you’re ready to step into a role where you’re trusted to make calls and you like being “the glue” in a project team, you’ll fit right in.
The manager, hours and salary
You’ll report to the Operations & Production Manager – a straight‑up operator who values engineers who own their patch and communicate clearly.
He’s not interested in micromanaging; he wants someone who can think ahead, flag risks and follow through.
Key details:
- Hours: 7am – 3pm (hello, afternoons).
- Salary: $140,000 + super.
- Location: Perth metro, with site visits as required.
- Parking: Free onsite parking.
- Process: Two‑stage interview process managed exclusively via Itch – no other agencies in the mix.
Why this role is worth a look
- New position: Step in without inheriting someone else’s half‑finished spreadsheets and “creative” filing system.
- Real variety: Office, site, clients, contractors – no two weeks will look the same.
- Impact: You’ll directly influence how projects are planned, delivered and improved, not just “do the paperwork”.
- Lifestyle: A competitive salary, early finish and parking on site – less commute faff, more time back in your day.
