THE WHO, THE WHAT AND THE WHERE
Our client is an accounting practice who focus on providing strategic tax advice and business advisory to family businesses – with all the complexities that come with them. This business is not involved in audit, insolvency, ASX companies, or not-for-profits.
This is a young, vibrant team of enthusiastic professionals who are dedicated to using the best technology and systems to ensure they maintain the highest quality of service and advice to their clients. They live by the motto “good is at the detriment of great” – so the standards are pretty high, but you will be given the tools and training to ensure you can meet, and ideally, constantly exceed expectations.
This practice is not set up in work “silos” – you will be given freedom to grow and learn across a broad range of accounting and advisory skills, with weekly training sessions an integral part of how they do business (constant training is a significant focus). They have created a company culture where everyone is empowered to ‘speak up’ and take chances, and in keeping with this approach, flexible work is available, including working from home and working within the hours that suit your life and meet your clients’ needs.
To top it all off, you will be working in a vibrant and ‘buzzing’ location with a great range of places for lunch, shopping at lunchtime, or heading out after work. The CBD offices are accessible by public transport from anywhere in the metro area, or just $13 a day for parking nearby – or for the cycling enthusiasts, there are secure bike lockers and end-of-trip facilities.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
Expect to be involved in providing strategic advice and business services to a wide range of (often high net worth) family-owned businesses; including tax compliance, self-managed super funds and business advisory such as restructuring, succession planning, and family life planning.
Business development and client account management are massive parts of this role, so you will need to be comfortable delivering presentations to clients or taking clients out to the Basketball.
These guys have a seriously strong work ethic and expect you to as well. They are looking for someone who puts their head down and bum up and gets things done. Of course, you are still allowed to have a chat but it shouldn't take over your day; your focus should be on completing the work in front of you.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
The biggest challenges of this role, (and the abilities we will be prioritising throughout the recruitment process) are:
- Firstly, to get your head around the significant amount of technology embedded in processes – the learning curve could be high – but you will get plenty of training, provided you are adaptable to change and able to learn.
- Secondly, your ability to communicate confidently and constructively with clients, in order to build trust in your ability and respect for your advice is going to be crucial to your success.
Additionally, we will be looking for the following:
- A tertiary accounting qualification
- Exposure to a wide range of accounting software packages (particularly Xero)
- Proven experience (at least two years) in providing high-quality client service and tax advice in public practice
